Along with China, Russia, India, and Chile, the US Trade Representative's annual report gave some extra love to our neighbors to the north by elevating Canada from the regular "Watch List" to the "Priority Watch List" in adequacy of IP protections against

"Now we finally get to blame the Great White North."

Sorry to say but you have been doing that for many years, what's one more?

Anyways I have no idea what all this is so can't really comment on the rest of it.

Obama is trying to tackle the REAL problem.

But tackling the real problems is always more difficult and painful than bogus diversions.

ps forgot this thread is about piracy...

well fuck them, Canadians have a far lower purchasing power parity than most other developed nations (actually one of the lowest in the top 15), so people don't like to spend as much, they download.

There are already bills in the pipework dealing with the issue but the cons are too fretful to pass them as they fear they will loose yuppie votes (and they will).

The lobbyists for the record companies in the US are just upset that we didn't pass a bill so that they could sue 15 year olds for stupid amounts like 1.5 million dollars for downloading music.

To even compare Canada to China on the issue of copyright laws shows how utterly naive Obamas administration is.

How soon before big business twists the government to pass a "Must Buy Bill". You know, like you must buy a new car every say 5 years, a new tv say every 2 years, a dvd player or equivalent every 3 months and no less than five hundred songs a year or pay a penalty. Most produce trash and then proceed to screw every nickel they can get out of the consumer thereafter. As paying consumers we are way too easy on big business and their obsolescent design practices.

That will be a $10,000 fine or forced labour sentence for 5 years of playing an extra in crappy b movies!

If it's legal to make a copy and listen to it yourself, which it is even in the US, why should this be any different. When is the crackdown on bootleg concert recordings and hockey games going to happen?

as far as I'm concerned, the US can take their list and shove it up their ass. Their drive to a Big Brother state is well underway and I want no part of it.

Rofl, what I find the most funny about this is that a lot of US citizens bootleg movies and music. Most of it is probally uploaded by a Canadian but a lot of Americans download and watch it/listen to it all the same. Yet no placement for the United States on the US List.

Our government may not crack down on pirating like the US does but there citizens pirate just the same as Canada. So yeah, fuck them and there stupid list.

However maybe we discovered the root of the problem in why some US movies, video games and music is never available to Canada? Because the US government puts up this big warning sign that music companies, movie companies and gaming companies view.
