Wow. The detail in which this chimo planned this is fasciniating. Especially the cracking of bouders and knocking on them to find the cracks.

Its not just that they are using and making tools. Its the planning for something that will happen in the future. I have never heard of that sort of ability anywhere in the animal world. He also has learned the different sound that a cracked portion of a boulder sounds like and breaks them off.

Actually chimps planning things has been documented for some time. I seen a show once where chimps from one pack(tribe, flock whatever)were moving to confront some rivals moving into their territory (Bloods versus Crips?)and when they got closer to the others they went silent and actually set an ambush for the interlopers(I love that word!) It even looked like they were using hand signals to coordinate their movement.

You get locked up in a cage so people can stand and laugh and point at you and you would prolly be making some weapons too. :wink:
