As usual, everyone pays because the real problem cannot be named.

They are openly discussing on the BBC how to get around the ban.

$1:
Regardless of nationality,

And when you can get around the restrictions by changing airports, or just flying to France first, the whole ban becomes pretty useless.

That for sure and what diff does it make if a device of concern is in a carry-on or in checked baggage?

None of the cities where outbound flights have the electronics ban are in countries slated to be on the overall travel ban. In fact most of the countries getting the electronics ban placed on them are considered good American "allies". Just thought someone should mention that kind of ironic little detail.

What if you tell the customs jerks that you're wearing one as a decoration so people think you're some kind of a non-conforming tough guy? 8)

If you took a flight from one of those countries to Paris or Berlin, then to the US the restriction wouldn't apply.

Do they think these things through?

Public_Domain Public_Domain:
In their minds, banning Muslims from entering Western nations completely.

I'm so glad that you weren't around during WW2 because you'd have championed the rights of Japanese militarists, German Nazis, and Italian Fascists to immigrate to the USA and Canada. :|

Maybe, maybe not. The fact that the Brits have signed on to this ban makes me believe that they know something is in the wind as far as another attack goes. If it was just the dunce cap in the White House doing it to show off what a tough guy he is then I'd be more likely to scoff it off. A ban on larger electronics is actually kind of logical considering the Libyans blew up the Pan-Am jet over Scotland using a chunk of explosive hidden inside a ghetto blaster. Kind of amazing after that one that electronics aren't inspected more carefully considering that they've shit their pants in panic over things completely innocuous as a tube of hand cream or a bottle of soda for the last ten years.

Most European airports, you fly from outside the EU, connecting to go outside the EU,
you go through security again. And security will check your flight itinerary.
Chances are your computer would be packed up based on your final destination.

But no, they aren't thinking it really through... yet.
