This could be the start of a better future for BlackBerry and BB10.

Seems to be something positive. Can they build on it?

They could if they had the right leadership and re-focused selling unlocked units through BlackBerry's website instead of mobile carriers.

Can they afford to do that? A phone's exposure seems to be closely linked to whether the carriers offer it. The carriers in effect subsidize the purchase of a phone in order to attract customers to being locked in to their plans, and buying an unlocked phone without a plan is an up-front expensive proposition.

Blackberry could, however, be forced to go in a different direction, if it's any indication that Rogers is not offering the new Z30. Will other carriers follow suit?

They make money on the handsets. BBM I don't see as an income earner. And from the looks of it, the Z30 will be avaialble from most carriers on Oct 15th.

The other carriers have already committed to selling the Z30.

A bad PR move for Rogers after spending lots of $$ on patriotic ads with the threat of Verizon coming to Canada.

I'm with Bell and haven't seen anything yet. I might consider going back to BlackBerry with the Z30 but after my disastrous experience with the Z10 & Q10 I'm very cautious. :|

Bell put it out on Twitter that they'd have it on the 15th, like everyone but Rogers.

It's time to upgrage my 9700. I debated between the Z10 and Q10 for so long that BB introduced the Z30, and that made up my mind. I'm going to be taking transit to work, so I was not looking foreward to bringing a tablet with me, and the Z30 will do very nicely.

A couple guys in the office had their company 9900s upgraded to Z10s, and they are quite happy so far. Only a couple weeks, but so far positive.

I tend to agree with that. Especially since I think it wouldn't have cost them anything to give their customers the option of buying Canadian.

I'm still on the fence and will probably wait to compare the Z30 against the Note 3. I do miss my 9900 even though it had a few bugs it was still a good phone.

Before I got the Z10 I went to Rogers and both locations trashed BlackBerry.

I don't know if a Rogers outlet would be the best place to go for advice. They probably are more interested in pushing certain phones.

I just bought a Samsung Galaxy not long ago. I did a lot of internet research and read a lot of reviews and customer opinions (some of which are very detailed) to try to get the right balance between usability and cost for my needs.

Read enough and you get a very detailed idea of what you're getting - both plusses and drawbacks.

Opinions in places like this forum are worth perusing too.
