Public_Domain Public_Domain: DrCaleb DrCaleb: It seems like you are trying every possible scenario until you find one that pisses us off. I'll save you time. It won't.
We love our country, but love for our country and symbols of that country are not unconditional. We know it has flaws and is tattered in places. Exposing those flaws won't change anything. on my way to work i walk by several tattered and ruined canadian flags that have been flying untouched for presumably years. bleached in the sun, one of the red sections missing, basically glorified string rick to me sounds like he'd personally go to a business/household flying an american flag in such a state and complain. that just doesn't really seem to happen here That kind of sight actually pisses me off. The flag should be treated with respect. https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-herit ... rules.htmlThere are no laws against desecration of the flag, but I have called the RCMP when I've seen things like that and they were rectified PDQ. That said, peaceful protest is still a constitutional right, so respectful protest during the anthem is fine by me. Actually, peaceful protest that pisses me off is the kind I respect most, because it is effective.

If he won't do it himself, then he shouldn't be flying them.

Public_Domain Public_Domain: calling the cops for small shit is attempted murder. my personal take That's fine. But I have yet to meet law enforcement personnel who take disrespecting the flag they protect and serve as 'small shit'. I do not consider it 'small shit'. And no one was in danger of being cop killed decades ago when the last time I had to report it because speaking with the store owner went nowhere. Contrary to the threads around here, most cops are pretty good people. You tend to forgo the cultural and societal norms most of us do. Nothing wrong with it, its just how you are. But seeing the Maple Leaf tattered and lying in the mud is a bit too much for most of us.

rick to me sounds like he'd personally go to a business/household flying an american flag in such a state and complain. that just doesn't really seem to happen here The difference is that actually does disrespect our flag, while taking a knee during the anthem does not. If someone wanted to take a knee in front of a flagpole/flag, that'd be okay too. Peaceful protest is fine by me. One of the Real Canadian Superstore locations here in Edmonton had a tattered flag up for a few months a year or two ago and it spawned a fair bit of controversy on social media (and maybe a news story or two), and they replaced it shortly thereafter. Since then, that location has always had an intact flag.

Public_Domain Public_Domain: as far as those other "rules", should check out a dollar store sometime for some more violations, mainly flag clothing... maybe call the cops on neil rossy, that would be 100% okay with me ![Angel [angel]](./images/smilies/angel1.gif) Don't even get me started. But the etiquette rules are just a suggestion. Alas, you can't put people into dungeons for wearing flag underwear any more. And, I have never, nor am likely to ever enter a 'dollar' store.

Public_Domain Public_Domain: threatening injury over the treatment of a graphical design is beyond the pale for me No one did any such thing. All we are trying to get across is that if you fly the flag, do it respectfully. If you can't, then stop flying it.
