Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
newfette newfette:
well its common sense to talk to whatever company your phone is with and they will explain it to you. that is their job.

I tried that.

Yeah, Robots and people from India aren't really who I want to be talking too.

If there is a Help line that's Canadian with people I can UNDERSTAND, please tell me.

I don't know about Canada it has been 5 years since I crossed the border (legally)
but they used to have cell shops around and the people that were selling the stuff would give you some time and show you one or two things about your features as long as you didn't hog up their time with 20 questions or keep them from making sales. They are usually commissioned sales people. but you may be able to corner one of them into helping you with a few things about your phone.
You are also internet savvy you can probably download the user "manwell" for your particular phone. Keep the dream alive Mr C. One day you too can be an annoying texter making traffic hold up while you post to CKA from your internet ready phone while in your car on Rue St Catherine.

when i cancelled my telus aircard and other mobility contracts they hit me with a huge bill,I was working far from town or any banks so only paid my usuall bill on my laptop without realizing to tack on a few hundred more for the contracts I broke. They sent my bill/account to a collection agency who told me they would find me where ever I go or work and ruin my life and credit rating.
I said give me a day to drive to a bank and i'll make it right but they gave me 2 hours.

Telus is a huge bloated company that needs a good kick in the teeth to get back to reality with their customers, they claim they need the 15 cents per text message to upgrade their system. What a crock of shit!
Tempted to go down to radio shack(the source for frankie)buy up some internet telephone hardware and start my own phone business.
If I lived in a city it would be very feasible methinks.

ok so YOU broke your contract and didn't pay the cancellation fee and because YOU didn't pay it they sent it to an outside collection agency who hounded you down.

now granted i dont know why you canceled your service but you did sign a contract. why is it the companies fault you didn't read it?

it shocks me that no one reads the contract they sign and then blame the company when they dont like the terms of that contract

you need to be a smart consumer and never sign anything without reading it first.

Newfette, I know what you mean. The contract is a 2-page document in 6-point font. It is written by 7 full time lawyers or something like that. A Telus sale person once told me that even employees don't understand it well in order to explain it to the customers. I can read it on the spot but how much time would it take us to read and understand?

Well, you don't have to read it at all to figure out you can't just break the contract without a penalty - that's why its a contract.

The guy that sold me my latest phone was good about that - he pointed out all the important parts of the contract (basically told me never, never, never use my phone as a modem ) and made sure I understood it. It wasn't more than a page long.

novachick novachick:
I think this is a whole lot of screaming over nothing. We are talking 15 cents. If you are getting that much spam on your cell maybe you need to be more careful about who has your number. I think cell contracts suck donkey balls in general. I use pay and talk, what am I ever gonna do without that 15 cents

I would have agreed with that until this past weekend, when out of the blue I got four spam messages from some contest company. The only people who have my cell phone number are my family and a few friends. I don't give it out, so as far as I know, the only way this 'company' could have gotten my number was directly from Bell/Solo. Why should I pay 60 cents for something I never asked for?

One of the biggest reasons I held out buying a cell phone is that they are such an incredible ripoff in Canada. When I lived in Asia, I bought an awesome phone for about $10 and never paid more than about $40 a month to use it. No contract, free incoming calls, 5 cent text messages. Then I came back here and everyone wants $200 for a phone with a 3 year contract with tons og other BS piled on top.

I hate cellphones in Canada!

its not that bad to read actually and I make sure all my new staff read it as well. if the employees dont understand it then they shouldn't be working there. I consider it a part of the job requirement to know what I'm talking about. but i also know that the majority of people dont take their job as serious as i do.

the section about the cancellation fee is on the first page (in bigger font) and its very clearly worded.

whats not to understand??

if you use texting, buy a text bundle.. they are designed to save you money.... even on pay as you go

I have no fucking idea what a "text bundle" is, or where to get one. No one is explaining these "plans" or where I can get them.

It's like people are hiding this information from me. I'm tired of it being presented as common sense, I don't have a freaking CLUE where any of this crap is, what is is, or how it works.

So I do what some people don't do nowadays. I talk with people in person.
Right on man! you really don't need this shit..they market to the teens and that's where they get the cash cow.. More people should think like you..
:x

Right on man! you don't need it. They are directing their market toward teens and kids. We are being brain washed with this shit.. more people should think like you.

I know I should have read the fine print as telus mobility contracts were $100.00/month then.I cancelled them because I had to hike a mile up a hill to get coverage where I was at.
I bet the text spam will increase when they start charging for incoming text messages,i cant see telus or an employee NOT selling your # to someone.
So far the only spam i get is from telus themselves.
