What will they do if their base in Syria gets over-run? Will we see Russian special forces fighting beside Assad's troops?

I think this is going to get much worse before it gets better. Maybe years worth of bad.

Good thing we're parking ships and trimming capability then.

Let the Euroweenies deal or not deal with it. It involves the EU and Russian Federation fighting over their spheres of influence

When was the last time any significant conflict in Europa was given a pass by NA?

Putin's ass is on the line here. If the Orange revolution II succeeds, it makes it that much more likely something similar will happen in Russia at some point. Ruins his image as the tough guy restoring Russia's glory and his plan for a new federation of east bloc states.

OTOH, what skin does the EU have in the game? Do they really want to admit another basket case to the union that will need years of bailouts? Shouldn't the EU be shedding members instead of adding them?

Isn`t it about time the `parents` stopped relying on the kids to bail them out?

Right, we're going to fight the Russkies in Crimea. Good luck with that.

If anything, this will be an economic war, enacting sanctions against Russia. The French, as usual, will not abide by them, and in other countries it will just be companies trading under the table with the Russians. Especially because Europe needs that Russian gas.

Why not? The UK has cut down to having the Horse Guards left.

Another glorious charge would be good for morale.

Ukraine's UN ambassador has stated Russian military aircraft are flying into their airspace, Il-76's and choppers. Unsure if they are flying in/out of the airfields that the "mystery commandos" seized today but it would be a safe bet.

AFP's US Defence source stated "several hundred" Russian troops have been sent out into Crimea so far. Obama is warning Russia (in rather timid language) about the "costs" of an invasion.

I think the Ukraine is about to learn a tough lesson, that when Ivan rolls in no one is going to help them.

I think the smart ones already know that.

Still, I think Putin has to be very careful here.
It isn't ' why are they attacking Atlanta ? ' Georgia..
