A lot of us don't 'need' texting and tend
not to care much what so many folks pay for
playing with toys.
A cheap cell phone with a monthly
storefront 10-buck card load is fine for
emergencies.
:D

And some of us do need it. My cell bill is 18 - 20 pages long, even as high as 30 pages. But my plan is unlimited texting, so no additional charges.

I also require my phone to obey certain paging protocols. Those extra pages of bill are mostly pages (like the old style pagers), not SMS type text messages.

Bell won't be moving me off my plan, because it's a corporate rate plan. But people signing up now can't get the unlimited texting feature. My job requires this functionality.

I think this is a whole lot of screaming over nothing. We are talking 15 cents. If you are getting that much spam on your cell maybe you need to be more careful about who has your number. I think cell contracts suck donkey balls in general. I use pay and talk, what am I ever gonna do without that 15 cents

I'm on Rogers when I’m in Canada, but this month I’m sure to be over 600+ SMS

Do the math

And 80% of those are International.

If I was on Bell or Telus I’d be pissed

This only really matters to the addicts.
I use my cell maybe 4 times a day and I don't text at all.

One of my friends spends all her time on the phone texting.
It's like being at a receptionist's station around her with the number of times her cell rings.

That reminds me, I'm paying for unlimited web access that I never really use outside of looking up geocache descriptions... I'll have to start watching youtube videos on my walk to and from work!

It's nickel and diming when we all know we can do the same for free online. Why do you think the carriers are being so anal about Wi-Fi? They know once that genie bottle is opened they can not go back to charging like robber barons that they are. Regional carriers are going to tear apart these idiots and they will have only themselves to blame for this bitter harvest that they have worked so hard to reap. They could have spent their time making reasonable rate plans and being competitive instead of becoming the laughing stocks that they are. Good riddance!

I have never had a spam message except from my provider...
I have a pay as you go, btw. Turned out to be cheaper for me than a plan ;-)

I have a text bundle. But for those who pay as they go, why should they pay for both incoming and outgoing messages?

The only text messages I get that aren't from family or friends are from Telus. I don't think I've ever received a spam one.

I have pay as you go and the only spam I get is from telus.
97% dropped calls....hello?

If you are only an occasional cell user guaranteed its cheaper and the only way to go. But me, I had to go and be a dumbass and sign a two year contract with Telus.

I regret it every day. XD

I think it al boils down to HOW you are going to use your phone. I know here in newfoundland you get more daytime minutes for less then you would out west. as far as the texting goes anyone who uses it has some kinda bundle for it and isn't effecte about this.

whoever thinks that wit the spectrum auction that the major carriers are gonna take that big of a hit is kidding themselves..... I think theres going to be some shifting but it'll all settle and it will all be in the best intrest of the consumer.
