It's not a right to strike, it's just an entitlement only a despot King would claim.

Editorial staff win big wage gains at National Post

Newsroom employees at the National Post have ratified their first collective agreement six months after voting overwhelmingly to form a union at one of Canada's largest daily newspapers. The deal means newsroom salaries will increase an average of 8.25 per cent over the two-year agreement after years of a prolonged wage freeze. Some employees will see double-digit percentage raises.

National Post journalists can now claim cash overtime, file grievances for binding arbitration, pursue editorial integrity issues, exercise seniority rights, and receive enhanced termination pay and severance in the case of layoffs, among a long list of improvements. Employees with 20 years or more service will have a sixth week of vacation restored.

Only 35%? That's worse than the turnout for federal elections.


700 military members without heat or hot water at CFB Petawawa due to PSAC strike

About 700 military members living on base at CFB Petawawa are without heat or hot water after some federal workers were deemed non-essential during the Public Service Alliance of Canada strike.

In total, 21 buildings that house members on site are without the amenities.

IMO providing amenities to those serving our country should be essential.

I feel for these people, but I think their demands (13.5% over three years) are too much, and I think the government's offer of 9% over 3 years is more than fair.

While I don't support mandating them back to work, I do feel like the CRA and passport workers should have been deemed essential workers, given the tax deadline is two weeks away and there is still a long delay for passports.

I agree boots. Perhaps the 2 sides can come to a reasonable agreement and meet in the middle.

Hopefully they can settle soon as a prolonged strike will be harmful to everyone who needs to access govt services.

35% of Canadians didn't go out and vote federally so Unelected Trudeau's Liberal gov't is illegitimate too, eh?
Lazy tag along union mambers, that's how it works. You make sure you get a ballot and use it or you get left behind.

Wanna make it moot? Make an offer 1% more and 1 more sick day, then they have to vote again. I'll bet more of them will vote, but many won't and still complain.

It always seems with other unions having strike voting there is a much higher level of participation.

This is NOT good. The cons want JT to hang on a petard of his own making and the NDP can't support back to work and face their base. That is bad but what is worse is the reports coming back from the table that this is the high water mark for the government offer and hold the workers in contempt.

This is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.

Striking public servants block access to government buildings and key infrastructure

Around the National Capital Region, hundreds of picketers are making their presence felt and heard, circling buildings, chanting through megaphones and blasting music.

Hundreds of public servants marched across the Portage Bridge between Ottawa and Gatineau, Que., where some of the biggest federal buildings are located, holding up traffic for a short period Tuesday morning.

On another note I was talking to a customer yesterday who mentioned that her husband is a government employee affected by this. Apparently neither he or his coworkers had the opportunity to vote on whether or not to strike though she did not say specifically why not. She said he would have voted to accept the offer made to avoid this action being taken.

I call Bullshit. They didn't go to their local union meeting and vote, just assumed everyone else didn't want to strike. No one ever "doesn't have an opportunity" to participate in the union process.

Ditto. Being in a union is a civic exercise. A muscle that is rarely exerted by the majority so when they do use it they frequently don't know the extent of the power welded or how to exert it.
