If the carbon tax survives the election and ratchets up high enough, maybe that will convince most people to switch to solar and EVs from natural gas and ICE vehicles. If not, then we're definitely screwed in the long run.

So, you're okay with people being forced to go in a direction that they might not want to go? Didn't we used to have freedom of choice in this country? Personally, I have no interest in EVs, nor do I want one. If a small percentage of people want to make the switch, that's up to them, but it shouldn't be forced on the rest of us.

-J.

So you'd rather force people into an environment that is unfit to human and many other forms of life? Like has been discussed to death, you don't live in a bubble, and your choices affect others. When your choice interferes with others' rights, the choice is taken away from you.

If you don't want an EV, don't buy one. Use the bus, which will likely be an EV. But most jurisdictions will not be selling the internal combustion engine type vehicles from about 2030 on. California, Europe, even Quebec all have plans to stop selling them. Adapt.

We all should be able to buy leaded gasoline if we want. It's a violation of our rights that Coke no longer contains cocaine. What ever happened to the the lovely PCBs in transformers that are on all the phone poles? And lawn darts with metal tips are a part of our traditional values. Bring them back!

Price/cost influences choices all the time.

It's why I live in a normal size house and not a 5000 sq ft mansion. It's why I drive a minivan and not a Porsche SUV. And so on.

If you're not interested in an EV, that's fine. You can keep driving as long as you want, as long as you can afford gasoline.

That's a choice.

So is deciding to buy an EV to stop paying carbon taxes.

The decision is ultimately yours. When you can no longer afford gasoline, you can choose to walk, ride a bike, or take transit. All choices.

Nobody is taking freedom away from you one bit.

Levying a carbon tax to price me out of a proper vehicle is hindering my freedom. If tree hugging hippies want to drive electric cars, I'm not stopping them nor asking for any special tax for them to do so. In return, I should not be stopped from driving a vehicle that uses a proven technology. If I want to drive an ICE vehicle, that is my choice. I shouldn't have to be punished for it.

I have already heard that Canada will stop allowing the sale of brand new ICE vehicles in 2035, and that makes me cringe. We've talked about this at work (I'm an auto service advisor), and no one is happy about it.

The boss will have to fork out for new diagnostic equipment and supplies, charging stations, etc. that she shouldn't have to shell out for. The techs are grumpy as well, because EVs are a whole new ballgame, and only a fraction of people even have them.

No.

The problem here are the younger generations. Instead of learning how the world works, they throw up a middle finger and try to change it at every turn.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

THe Carbon Tax is there to get you to drive less or get a more fuel efficient vehicle.
And it's MOOT.
The goddam oil companies are doing far more to get you to do that by driving gas prices up than any tax ever did.

I'm going into Prince George today and while the old lady gets her hair done I'm gonns sneak off and look to see if anyone even has ONE EV on the lot. I've seen exactly ONE for sale on a lot since they started promoting them, never saw even a single Chevy Volt in the showroom the whole time they made them.
Dealers hate EVs, they can't suck you into a $200 oil change every 1500Kms like it was a '53 DeSoto

You can whine about limiting freedoms all you want, but a carbon tax is no different than the sin taxes Canadians pay for booze, cigarettes, etc. Those have potentially harmful effects on people and will impact society years later, so taxes must be levied to pay for those harmful effects.

Those taxes do not stop anyone from buying cigarettes or booze, and if someone is addicted enough to want them, they will find a way to buy them.

The exact same thing can be said about ICE vehicles, which pollute the environment and will affect future generations...therefore, taxes must be levied to help alleviate the negative effects of that pollution.

So drive whatever you want, just be prepared to pay for the privilege.

And yes, driving is a privilege, not a right, so accept it and get on with life.

Just like ICE vehicles EVs have issues similar but different. Technology is far from perfect...
$1:
General Motors says it has expanded a recall of its Chevy Bolt electric vehicles to include all model years because of a risk the battery cells could catch fire.

This latest recall includes about 73,000 Bolts from model years 2019 through 2022, including just over 10,000 in Canada. A previous recalled announced in July was for 69,000 Bolts from between 2017 and 2019.

The company says that in rare cases, two manufacturing defects in the battery cells create a risk of fire.

You know that every Tesla vs. Supercar video ends with the Tesla winning, right?

And if you drive an ICE vehicle, the rest of us shouldn't have to have a polluted warming environment either.

What about this society says you have to be happy? I'm not happy that computers change so quickly that I have little hope of keeping up with the changes in the context that I earned my degrees. But I learn what I can, and keep up to date as best I can. It's called 'progress'.

Fuel injection required new diagnostic equipment. Tire Pressure sensors required new diagnostic equipment. Forced induction required new diagnostic equipment. And whatever new technologies developed in the next 15 years will require new diagnostic equipment.

Or, only accept cars from 2000 - 2021 in your shop, and give up being relevant.

Have you seen cigarettes and alcohol disappear? Go ahead, I'll wait.

I was born with an overwhelming urge/mission to stand up for freedom and the country that I love, and speak out against those who seek to destroy it.

Argumentum ad ignorantium.

Have you seen cigarette and alcohol use increase or decrease? And what part of the Charter do taxes violate again? Go ahead. I'll wait.

Exactly. And the people out there who are out of work in BC because their tourist towns are on fire? The people who have lost their livelihoods in Northern Ontario because their businesses are ash? The farmers who's crops are destroyed by drought? The ranchers who have to cull their herds because there is nothing for the animals to eat over winter? All the people who were already economically walloped, but now must evacuate their towns because the wall of flame is approaching? The hundreds of people who died this summer from the heat dome that forced them to survive temperatures that the human body cannot survive?

Are you going to speak up for them? Will you stand up for the change needed to let them live their lives? Or do you just like to be the toady of the oil companies?
