N_Fiddledog N_Fiddledog:
I've got that finger on the trigger habit too. When I was I was a kid there were some close calls grouse hunting with the buddies.

With the other stuff...this is taking me back. Not to my hunting days, but to the time when the TLC series came out. This - what your doing right now - is what the indignant left was doing after each ep. All these Saturday morning sports experts would come out with all these "expert" comments that were supposed to make you believe they knew so much more about hunting and fishing than Sarah Palin. Some of them were kind of unintentionally, hilarious, especially the ones from Britain.

With you though, I think you just needed to see the whole thing, and you would have gotten a better idea. The thing was Sarah was going out hunting under the supervision of the old-school, old-timers. Chuck was treating her like the schoolgirl he started hunting with years earlier. Like I said he sighted her gun for her the night before. He loaded it for her too, and when he cocks it this is nothing unexpected. I'm not sure, but I think it was his gun. They show Sarah shooting solo later in the same series. She does fine. The other guy told her his gun kicked when he handed it to her. He told her twice. She replied, "It kicks?" This proves what again?
VERY bad habit. I suggest you work on that one. And no, I haven't watched the series. You bringing up the Morgan/Palin thing got me interested.

I'm not buying the excuses for her problems. She does ask, about 25 seconds into the clip (no pun intended), if the rifle kicks. I have never shot a .223 in my life, but am aware that they have little or no kick. I would hope that an experienced hunter would know that also. It is possible she didn't know what caliber she was using, but again I see that as problematic that she wouldn't ask. I mean how does one shoot a rifle if they don't know if it's a .223 or a .505 Gibbs? I am also not buying the "little girl" syndrome either. This is a woman who wants to show how women can be hunters and how hunters are really conservationists (both topics dear to my heart) but wants Daddy to do it all except pull the trigger. Does'nt wash!

Like I said, the way I remember it she was shooting her dad's gun. She asks if it kicks. So? The way she told it, hunting could be a dad and daughter thing in Alaska. They had their habits. It wasn't one of the big controversies of the series. A lot of lefties were pissed that she shot the Caribou at all though.

There was a lot of things that outraged the left in that series. I remember this one guy from Britain going on in his blog about how Sarah required the proper fly fishing rod for salmon fishing, or something. That one made me smile. I always just cast in a lure. Apparently this means me and Sarah don't know how to fish, or something. We don't care. The Salmon's are just as yummy we catch.

FWIW, I didn't spend much time thinking about her show on TLC. All it did was reinforce my perception of TLC as a channel ridden with "reality" shows featuring white trash caricatures.

Wow dog, ya gotta quit thinking that anyone who disagrees with you is a leftie. First, I would, if we could verify things, bet you that I have met more caribou shooters and eaters than you have, having lived in Northern Sask for 30 years. Many or most of them would qualify as lefties even on my scale. And the father daughter thing--still does not excuse using a firearm on a big game animal without knowing what you are shooting, that's just irresponsible. And the Brit fisherman, fly fishing is more often an upper class pursuit there. If that one was a leftie than they must of been going against their daddy's wishes.

To me she is a has been politico that wouldn't even be on the radar except some idiots keep bringing her up. That's idiots to the right and stoidi to the left also.

Again, why take things so personal? I don't know what you are, but I guarantee the poor fools suffering from Palin Derangement Syndrome who fixated on that series, and never got over what a success it was were lefties.

As to that old video from the old TV series you brought in out of nowhere when we were discussing Piers Morgan being made to look an idiot after Sarah refused to appear on his left winger show nobody watches... Sarah went hunting Caribou with her Dad. She had some problems with the rifle sights on her dad's gun, but eventually she got a well-sighted gun and shot her Caribou. Yum Yum. I don't know where you got the idea she didn't know what the Caribou was. You should see what's hanging on her dad, Chuck Heath's wall. There's good reason to suggest they know what a Caribou is. I am starting to wonder why you can't let the idea go she may have done something wrong there though. It seems to be important to you. PDS maybe?

It's OK though apparently a lot of people still remember Sarah.

At this posting the Facebook post that started this current controversy with Piers Morgan has received 55,425 likes (including mine  ).

Wow Dog, did you miss my post or did you miss your morning coffee? I only looked into this when someone posted about the Morgan/Palin thing. Before that I hadn't given it a thought. Now you think I take it personally! All I said was she didn't appear to show herself as a competent hunter. I know that I myself would not hunt with someone with her finger on the trigger. (That includes you too Dog.) And I would think a competent hunter would know what to expect from just about any of the common calibers. She didn't appear to. Nothing was said about her not knowing what a caribou is! What I said was that the caribou hunters I know are almost to the man lefties. (Well, NDP supporters, but close enough for government work.)

Somehow Dog, I suspect it's you who are taking this way to seriously.

Wow, that's impressive. The wild hog blog of the Wildlife Ecology & Community Engagement Lab (WECE) at the University of Saskatchewan has only gotten 693 likes. I suppose that means wild hogs had best not run against her in an election.

Anyone who has watched British programming knows that Piers Morgan, too, is a frequent object of derision from both the left and the right.

Well, if both the left and the right dislike him, he's probably an okay guy.

From what I've seen it's the left, right and even the centre that think he's a puffed up twat.

A pedantic and terrible person interviews a dumb and terrible person. It's a genuine wonder the entire world didn't collapse from the gravitational tidal forces generated by so much massive suckitude gathered in one small spot around the interview desk.

Exactly, That's why he left the UK. Now he's annoying everyone on this side of the Atlantic now. At least he's not hacking people's phones anymore.
