I have no idea who Jay Z is, but I disagree with you on Beyonce. That girl can sing.

Unlike Bush who got enough practise in the first few years of his presidency that he just concentrated on enjoying himself the rest of the time. :)

Well, Obama is too busy to attend security briefs when Jay Z and Beyonce are hosting a party. :o

If given the choice between staring at Hillary and listening to a security briefing or staring at Beyonce, the choice is obvious...

Probably one of the bigger names in hardcore rap. His stuff is mostly inaccessable to those who aren't true fans but he's had a couple of genre-smashing blockbusters, like this one:

I would imagine she was the one in the administration who not only had information about the threat but also the background information to decide if it was credible or not.

Although it's very possible Obama had some knowledge of what was going on, he also has a lot of ther things to deal with and assesing risk at various embassies is the kind of job that's not done personally by the president.

You're quite likely correct in your assumption but the point I was trying to make was that people crucify the Bush administration and Bush himself for 9/11 claiming he knew all about it yet when it comes to Obama he gets a pass?

I somehow don't think that either of them knew about the attacks and since the same bureaucrats are still running the state security apparatus I don't think that the distribution of knowledge has changed all that much with the administration change so this is like I said before:

Just a maneuver to head off a politcal controversy.

It's disturbing to think that Hillary is likely no more culpable than Colin Powell was yet both of them got thrown under the bus to protect their leaders. Loyalty my ass................ politics is a blood sport.

Obama's now catching heat because it seems he directly denied ground and air support to the Navy SEALs on the ground at Benghazi. Emails from the consulate that were sent direct to the White House prove the White House knew what was happening as it was happening and now even the State Department is backing off from the 'official' version of events coming out of the White House.

It's probably too late to really impact the election but it'll be interesting to see what happens in the weeks after the election as Congress investigates.

If it's true, I really have to wonder what he was thinking. I just don't see how he benefits.

See this is the problem, Bart. If there ARE ground troops in Libya, they sure as hell weren't invited there and aren't public knowledge. And air support would have to fly into Libya to do anything.
Now if they're sitting right there and ARE at the invite of Libya, nobody in the right mind is gonna accuse the President of telling them no.
So what it boils down to is you don't fucking have a right to send troops or bombers into someone else's country even if your embassy is being stormed in a country you don't like. Period. No discussion.
You get to swallow your pride and go through the diplomatic motions and THEN escalate if things fail.
Obama is smart enough to know that.
Romney's smart enough to know that.
Both know that even if they did send anyone once the shit hit the fan, they'd get there just late enough to kill all the wrong people. Like the ones trying to help your ambassador that are your FEW AND FAR BETWEEN allies.
But Romney's sly enough to use the anger of people who think they can and should go storming off starting another war with anyne who pisses them off.
So he's the one that shouldn't be trusted.

$1:
The networks obtained email evidence from the White House - specifically, from the office of National Security Advisor James Jones - ordering a counterterrorism team to cancel a rescue mission at the U.S. consulate and CIA annex in Libya. According to Gingrich, "They were a group in real-time trying to mobilize Marines and C-130s and the fighter aircraft, and they were told explicitly by the White House ‘stand down and do nothing. This is not a terrorist action.'"

The former House speaker added, "I think that’s very dubious given that the president said he had instructions they are supposed to do everything they could to secure American personnel.”

Well, some discussion. Even though the attack was on a consulate, not an embassy.

As has probably been said in this thread embassies are sovereign territory of the embassy's nation; the Canadian Embassy in Washington is just as much Canada as Parliament Hill. If an embassy is being stormed, that's technically a hostile invasion. One hopes the local police can stop the siege, but military action to turn back the invasion can be justified.

Also, if the message that the ambassador is in danger came to the White House via email, then the system is very, very broken.

No, that part of the system worked fine. The DoD email system provides for on-the-fly authentication of messages to make sure that the sender and recipient are verified for each other.

Ostensibly, a nuclear launch order could be sent via this system.

Well, let's home the President doesn't make someone take the fall because he apparently didn't get wind of a nuclear launch.
